Every year, our local newspaper, The Bakersfield Californian, solicits ballots from our community. Neighbors and community members nominate and vote for “The Best of Bakersfield” for a wide array of businesses, from restaurants to attorneys. This year, as it has for the past 8 years, Greenlawn Funeral Homes and Memorial Parks has had the honor of being recognized as “Best of Bakersfield” when it comes to funeral and memorial care.
Although I look at this recognition as our report card from the families we serve and am thankful we are appreciated, I also believe it doesn’t mean we have reached the pinnacle of our success. Rather, I feel it means we are doing the job we are called to do. No more and no less.
When families suffer a loss, they deserve our best. We should always strive to exceed their expectations. To provide a level of service that honors the life of their loved ones beyond what they thought was possible. When the service has concluded and the family leaves our facilities, at a minimum we want the family to be able to say “we are grateful we chose Greenlawn to help us through this difficult time.”
That level of comfort and satisfaction is the benchmark we hold ourselves to. If by meeting this standard it means we are “The Best of Bakersfield” in our families’ eyes, then we have done the job we are called upon.
I pray we never settle for less.
